Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the migration experience of "trailing wife" who followed their husbands overseas and to clarify its meaning and essence. The participants were five married women who followed their husbands abroad, had been living there for less than three years, and did not have a fixed period of residency, and were not familiar with the local language. Data were collected through in art-based interview, and the analysis was conducted using Giorgi's phenomenological data analysis method. As a result, 191 units of meaning, 40 units of summarized meaning, 19 sub-constituent elements, and 6 constituent elements were derived. The results of this study are as follows. The "trailing wife" in this study decided to migrate based on family priorities. They experienced a decline in their emotional and behavioral states in the host country and found it difficult to live an autonomous life due to a lack of language proficiency.
They feel the need for a stable confidant with whom they can share their hearts, and experience bleak and uneasy emotions about their own future.
However, they made various efforts to adapt to their environment, reflected more deeply on themselves, and even took creative challenges. Finally, based on these research findings, we discussed the migration decisions, identities, and psychosocial support of "trailing wife".
